We've known for a long time that smaller bodies of water like ponds and lakes absorb carbon. What we didn't know until recently was that they do the feat in dramatically faster ways than oceans and trees do. This discovery can have some good applications when you consider the kind of problems that the global community is facing today. Learn more about it in the full article up next. |

Sixty minutes of lights out in recognition of the fact that humans need to take action on climate change. This is the premise of Earth Hour. Perhaps you might have heard of it. If you live in Sydney, Australia, you'd definitely have heard of it since it was the first major city to turn its lights out. Earth Hour may be coming to your own town soon. More details in the full article. |

Wise men have said that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes, that reason involves revealing something that would never have been revealed otherwise. Take the case of the recent total lunar eclipse that took place last February 20. According to scientists, it offered them insight into another possible factor in global warming. More "aha" moments ensue after the jump. |

Carbon dioxide is the biggest culprit that must be addressed to fight climate change. The U.S. realizes that and has set out on a mission to eliminate 90 percent of CO2 emissions from its power plants. It hopes to do so by chilling the compound and stopping it from escaping the plant. We've all heard the viability of biofuels for land transportation and sea, but when it comes to jet fuel, that's another story. Virgin Atlantic set out to prove that the idea of biofueled jumbo jets are plausible and flew a four jet-engine aircraft from London to Amsterdam to make a point. More details at the full story. |

If an ounce of prevention is indeed worth a pound of cure, then concerned folk must act to preserve the coral reefs and ultimately, the butterflyfish. The bad news is that scientists have warned that the said species of fish may possibly face extinction unless something is done to prevent that. More fishy news ensues in the full article after the jump. |
