Do you remember somebody telling you that taking too much antibiotics is not good for you? If you laughed at and dismissed that warning, think again. Aside from antibiotic overdose, there is also the fact that deadly viruses evolve into deadlier ones for every antibiotic intake.A comprehensive article in Live Science tackles the interesting - and important - truth about what people call "Superbugs", viruses that seem to be immune from antibiotics that should have eradicated them in the first place. Many children fall prey to so-called Superbugs, and recorded incidents have risen dramatically. Superbugs are bacteria that were supposed to be wiped out by an antibiotic treatment, but managed to survive due to an innate genetic trait. Bacteria that survive the antibiotic treatment then replicate themselves, carrying on the specific gene that helped them withstand the antibiotics, rendering future treatments slightly ineffective to useless. However, the article emphasizes that there is little chance for someone to be in contact with a Superbug, and that healthy people will most probably survive after getting infected, thanks to their immune systems. Healthy immune systems are after all, effective. So effective, they even eradicate the foreign bacteria that's supposed to do the body good (but scientists are already developing a fix for that). The next time that you decide to self-medicate with common antibiotic, it helps to reconsider and go straight to a doctor for a consultation. You don't want to make your foes even more stronger, after all. Click on the Read link to check out the entire article! |
