Who built Stonehenge? Why? When and how did they ever manage to lug around those huge bluestones and lay them in concentric patterns? Science has yet to give us any definite answers on the "who, why, and how" parts, but a pair of archaeologists are about to tackle the "when" question. More in the full article. |

The mystery of the Stonehenge continues to shroud the scientific community, that is why they are not letting up on finding out just where these amazing structures came from. But while they have yet to determine the mysteries lying deep within it (alien conspiracy theories, anyone?), what they did discover was that it didn't stand alone. To be more precise on that, archaeologists suggest that Stonehenge, along with other standing stones, were actually used for ancestor worship and commemoration of the dead. The research team, headed by Colin Richards of Manchester University and Joshua Pollard of Bristol University found new evidence that hinted at a stone monument being once present in the site. Apart from this, they also found evidence from old maps and ancient sources for other similar monuments near Stonehenge. Says Pollard, "There may have been many smaller megalithic settings across this landscape." If ever, then those monuments would have a very primordial connection to Stonehenge, as it emphasizes on the symbolic role of spreading the authority of Stonehenge as a place for miracle cures to a wider landscape.
