If you tripped upon a white diamond in some state park, you're one lucky son of a gun. But if you found a 2.37 carat diamond at the only diamond-bearing site where you are allowed to actually keep the gems you've found, then you become one filthy rich and filthy lucky son of a gun.

That's how Gary Dunlap of Jefferson, Arkansas could be described best after finding the Star of Thelma, the 2.37 carat diamond he dug up over that the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro. The gem was found near a Bois d'Arc tree nestled on the park's 37.5 acre search field.

Although Dunlap has been to the site over a dozen times, this is his first diamond find. Star of Thelma was the chosen name of the diamond in honor of his wife of more than ten years.

The biggest diamond find so far in the park is the 16.37-carat Amarillo Starlight white diamond found in 1975.
