Pediatricians at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine have found a link between smoking and having female offsprings. According to the study, if both parents are smokers, then the probability of them having a male baby drops by as much as 50 percent.Checking out the records of 9,000 women who gave birth between the years 1998 and 2003 at the Liverpool Women's Hospital, they found out that those women who were smokers at the time of the child's conception are more prone to having a female child. Not only is this factor limited to those who smoke, it also affects the probability of even those women who, while not being smokers, are exposed to second-hand smoke during pregnancy. Apart from this, the study, which is reported in The Independent, also asserts that smoking raises the chances of miscarriage. |
