Scientists get death threats over Large Hadron Collider - Image 1Just because Gino D.'s Dr. Evil image cracks me up so much, here he is again for you. But on to the news. Now that the first proton particles have been injected into the Large Hadron Collider, the facility is now getting ready to start up the humongous atom smasher next Wednesday. Exciting. Excitement has been dampened for the scientists at the facility however, as they've been getting death threats to stop the operation. Details in the full article.

Dr. Evil's Large Hadron Collider of doom - Image 1It's not fair that the folks at Switzerland get all the fun. Now, you can build your very own Large Hadron Collider at your backyard (given that your backyard's big enough, of course). Be the Dr. Evil you've always wanted to be and follow the full how-to guide that CERN's published online to create your very own doomsday device! It's simple enough, given that you can understand it all. But once that's done, it's all a matter of piecing it together, right? Aww, c'mon, it's not as tough as it sounds. Read more for instructions!

Large Hadron Collider - Image 1For better or for worse, the first particles have finally been injected into the world's largest atom smasher. Scientists at CERN, the European Center for Nuclear Research, will be observing the behavior of the first proton particles injected into the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) earlier this month. Find out more in our full article after the jump.

The Earth Will Be Just Fine, Thank You - Image 1

Save for blowing the Earth up or letting it get sucked by a black hole made by the Large Hadron Collider, there's not much humans can do to actually harm this planet's existence. It was here long before us, and will be here long after we die off. So what's the point of all this environmentalism? Think of it this way: it's not about saving the planet, it's all about saving ourselves. More semantics in the full article.

Large Hadron Collider- Science news - Image 1In less than two days - 1 day, 18 hours, and 50 minutes as of this writing - the Large Hadron Collider will be activated. Any of you worried? There's nothing to fear but fear itself. And the Large Hadron Collider. But why are we afraid of it, really? What can it actually do besides making a black hole to swallow up the world? Follow the wormhole into the full article.

Professor Layton - Image 1Want some brain food? We're serving a platter of delectable trivial delights to lighten up your day - maybe enlighten your brain too. Here's a list of fifteen facts - probably the most useless facts that you'll even come across, but knowledge is knowledge and it pays to learn certain things too. Who knows, it might save you life one day (especially with the Large Hadron Collider's looming activation date)! Trivia can't get any more trivial than this!

The Wii Weekend WarriorWe have approximately 25 days left to live. Well, depending on when you read this, and depending on when the scientists at CERN finally switch on the Large Hadron Collider, and depending on whether they were wrong about it being safe. At any rate, while we're still here, it's time for another edition of the Science Weekend Warrior!

CERN's Large Hadron Collider Ignition Delayed Until August - Image 1I wasn't worried at all. Not at all. My fingernails just chewed themselves, in case anyone asks. The ignition of the Large Hadron Collider - which a lot of people believe can cause a black hole to appear and suck us all into a parallel dimension - has been delayed. You have one more month to enjoy life before the end of the world the launch. Story in the full article.

Science Weekend Warrior: black holes and Martian ice cubes - Image 1Welcome to our first edition of the Science Weekend Warrior! This is the place where we talk about the cutting edge of science, from the latest technological advancements, to the latest discoveries on Mars. Though sometimes we just like to talk about something interesting, like how Mars (the chocolate company, not the planet) wants to decode the DNA of chocolate. Basically, stuff to geek over.

Large Hadron Collider - Particle Accelerator - Science News - Image 1The Large Hadron Collider, the largest and most powerful particle accelerator, is scheduled to be up and running in the very near future. It's so powerful that it is feared to be able to create a black hole that can swallow the Earth, and then some. And that's just one of many other dangers it poses. So, when it becomes fully operational in the next few months... should we worry?
