It's starting. Satellite images have revealed that the Arctic ice has retreated from its neighboring continents. The region has become an island for the first time in recorded human history. A further sign indicating that the North Pole will lose its ice this year. More details in the full article. |

Shame on the tooth fairy for hoarding centuries' worth of people's teeth! Guess she (or he?) was right on the money all this time. A recent discovery made by Japanese scientists may finally break all ethical obstacles of stem cell research. Instead of cultivating the stem cells from human embryos, the team has found that suitable cells extracted from teeth may be used to develop and grow other types of cells in a laboratory. It's the modern world's wonder cure, baby! Open wiiiiiide. |

Now, personally, my knowledge of Japan looking for aliens is basically limited to that line of toys which eventually gave birth to Optimus Prime and the rest of his Transformers crew. All that might change though, if Japan's little project bears any fruit. Don't look now, but a team of astronomers in Japan are actually planning to scan around the cosmos for aliens. A water-powered car. Sounds like the science doesn't hold H2O, but someone apparently refused to believe it when everyone else said it can't be done. Ok, honestly, I hope this is the real deal, but you can judge for yourselves. Watch a video of the car in action in the full article. |

Almost two decades ago, a group of scientists presented a report of the existence of cold fusion. The report was bogged down in controversy and ever since then, cold fusion has mostly been looked upon with skepticism. Cold fusion's promise of cheap and efficient energy became a dream for many. Now, a retired physics professor claims that he has found the secret to cold fusion. Is this the real thing, or just another dead end? |

Prosthetics for humans are common. Prosthetics for animals aren't as common, but they're not unheard of - but prosthetics for sea creatures are a different matter. At least, this is the first time we've heard of a prosthetic tail. Meet Winter, the world's first bionic dolphin. Details in the full article. |

In just about every galaxy known to man, the most common feature in them is that they all have a monstrous centerpiece: a massive black hole. For some reason, Milky Way's own Sagittarius A* seems dormant, but Japanese observers say it wasn't always this way. The full story follows after the jump. |

A team of scientists from Japan has created a molecule that is highly capable of reversing liver cirrhosis. It was first tested on rats and have been proven to be effective. The trick now is making it into a drug suitable for humans. Read the full article after the jump! |
