Snorlax - Image 1Some people sleep eight hours a night and are completely floating around in their day jobs, while others sleep only five hours a night and manage to be alert business moguls who are fresh and active all day. What gives? Have we been lied to all our lives? Or are some of us evolving into sleep-resisting super humans?

"It's nonsense. It's like saying everybody should have size eight shoes, or be five foot eight inches," says Professor Jim Horne of the Louborough University Sleep Research Center, "there is a normal distribution - the average sleep length is seven, seven and a quarter hours."

However, Professor Horne says that the average does not necessarily mean that it applies to all. The fact of the matter is that it all boils down to genes and the habits we are accustomed to, says he. The need for sleep is relative and may be a case to case basis, so there's no sure way of determining how much sleep you need other than your alertness level during the day time.

What Horne suggests is for people to observe for themselves what kind of sleep they need. If they can work well and stay alert with less than eight, then they probably are getting enough rest. Some people sleep for more than eight hours and still get drowsy in the day time.

Doctors suggest that relieving oneself of stressful thinking and activities will enhance the ability to sleep and improves the quality of it. This sets up a night of rest that is healthy, deep and natural, which proves refreshing to most individuals.

» don't eat anything before sleeping

Well it depends......

people who don't eat any food before 2 houres before going to bed they will enjoy a great sleeping becuase thier stomach isn't working

secondly it's about sports....if you live a sedentary life without even taking a walk for 15 minutes atleast 3 times a week you'll never enjoy sleeping.

SO DON'T EAT ANYTHING BEFORE SLEEPING FOR 2 HOURES ATLEAST

» The Right Amount of Sleep

OK well, everyone needs 7 hours of sleep because we should be reenergized for another full days work. It's also about our diet as well. Eat a big hearty breakfast, a smal lunch and a medium sized dinner, and small snacks in between. Doing this will keep our bodies energized because at the end of the day our bodies are drained thats why we need to eat as much in the morning to start our day off with lots of energy. The minumum amount of sleep to still be able to function is 4 hours. Anything below that it becomes a question of routine and repetion....like training. If you train your body for 2 hours of sleep then you can actually be able to go into a deep sleep for 2 hours and wake up refreshed as if you just had 7 hours of sleep. Be honest with yourself about this subject, because if your not, your body will be greatly fatigued and you will be dehydrated, then the real problems can start to kick in. Everyones different, and we have to be honest about our bodies with this subject because it's our life.

» The Right Amount of Sleep

Originally, we are the souls, not bodies. When we have awareness that we are the souls (points of light) and remember the Supreme Father, Supreme Soul, God (also Point of Light) alone, then we don't need to sleep generally. This is because our mind and intellect is purified and we, the souls receive huge elevated power from Our Father, Beloved.

Pay attention to sleep cycles. 4-5 works better than 6-7 for me.

 » I sleep 5 hours a day

I do something different, I sleep for 5 hours, and in the afternoon I sleep for 15 minutes to stay alert and refreshed.

I eat healthy and drink Green Tea everyday... I guess that's probably why.

 » Same here

Same here Randy, I sleep 5 hours a day and take a 20 minute nap in the afternoon... When I go to sleep, I breathe deeply and think of absolutely nothing at all to get fully rested.

When I wake up in the morning I do my 20 min pushups and situps, take a shower, eat breakfast... and I'm ready to go to work... Yahoo!! So Fun.

 » Yea

It's amazing that you guys can sleep less than 7 hours and stay awake and mentally alert... I don't know how you guys do it and I'm jealous. For me I can never manage to do that because I would be so tired... I wish I could sleep less than that to have more freetime to play video games.

A lot of people say that less sleep is harmful for your health, not really though, it just depends on the individual... If the individual eats healthy, exercises everyday and has a stress free life, then he or she can get by with 5 or 6 hours of sleep.
