Spitting Cobra - Image 1Fans of large, long snakes listen up! A recent study has discovered a new giant species of spitting cobra in Kenya called the Naja Ashei. It is a whopping 2.6 metres long and carries  enough venom to kill up to 20 people in one bite.

From all indications, the Naja Ashei is known to be a very aggressive snake. Experts have recorded that it was able to successfully swallow a five foot long puff adder, a two and a half foot long monitor lizard, and a rabbit.

A study conducted by Herpetologist Wolfgang Wuster and Donald G. Bradley established that the new species can be found in multiple areas such as the lowlands in northern and eastern Kenya, norther Uganda, southern Ethiopia, and southern Somalia.

According to experts, the discovery of the Naja Ashei helps clarify the status of the eastern and northeastern Africa species of spitting cobras since they were all placed together under a single species in the 20th century.
