Albert Einstein, a mentally gifted individual - Image 1A sociologist explained in an article why intelligent people tend to be unhappy. Posted on Scribd, he basically discussed why the rates of suicide, imprisonment and emotional dysfunction among highly intelligent people are much higher than for the average.

One of the reasons he suggested was that highly intelligent children do not get enough emotional, social and physical development as much as they get developed intellectually. This is because most adults think that mentally gifted children, being intellectually superior, do not need much help and can do well enough on their own.

As a result, mentally gifted children exhibit poor social skills, becoming known as outcasts of "geeks". Although the 21st century brought a renewed acceptance to "geeks" or the mentally gifted, most still have trouble fitting in with the rest of the population. This in turn, cause much emotional stress on the mentally gifted, which makes them more prone to depression, suicide, and committing crimes.

Not much study may have come to discuss about the personalities of gifted children, but the author encourages adults to treat mentally gifted children in a way that will be ideal to them, and to continously aid them in wholistic development.
