Earth - Image 1Have you ever wondered what the Earth would be like without the most destructive and unruly species, the humans?

Alan Weisman, author of the book "The World Without Us", presents a well thought-out scenario of how Earth would turn out after the human species have been evacuated or eradicated from the face of the Earth. Man-made structures will eventually erode by natural causes as years pass; nuclear power plants will eventually melt in radioactive liquid; and, the rest of the world will eventually recover its rich eco-diversity. Most species - like the cockroaches who many believe will take over the world someday - will supposedly fare better without us bossing them around.

Weisman claims that about 4 out of 5 people thought that the idea of human beings getting wiped off the face of the planet sounds nice. While there really are some people who would want to bring about the extinction of their own species, like the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement, it really does seem sad that there will be no one around to witness the beautiful Earth they are proposing should their plans come into fruition.

However, Weisman had a slight change of heart toward the end of the book, saying that it will be best if the human population worldwide will agree to limit their number of offspring to stabilize the population. Doing so, he says, will lower the population down to only 1.6 billion. What sounds good about this proposal is that it may very well mean larger backyards for every family.

truth and matt, you two are both stupid. when will you finally realize there is no god.
i see the bible as a history book, not something to worship. these miracles are bogus, jesus had no healing powers.
this preacher did not bring back his wife from the dead. she was pronounced dead. her heart rate might have slowed down alot. when the preacher came in, her heartbeat normalized. she then died after talking.
theres an explanation for everything.

evolution
evolution occurs slowly over tens of thousands of years. it is due to small mutations that increases an animals fitness.
the big bang
the big bang happened billions of years ago, when the entire universe was packed together in a small tight ball. this then exploaded and flung all the matter everywhere.
did you guys fail science or did your damn homeschooling leave that out of the program?

 » homeschooling?

What led you to believe that? I go to a regular school just like anyone else. Why would you assume I was homeschooled, and how would that have ANYTHING to do with God? And I''ve asked this several times, but no atheist has been able to answer this. Where did the first freakn matter come from? If nothing can be created, then how did matter create itself? Can you answer that?

   Re: doodad (Unregistered) - 2007-07-20
 » well...

how did god came to be? how did he create himself? If god was just there what's stopping matter from being just there (remember, matter is energy...)

If you've ever been to a real churh service in your life like the one I attend, you would've known people that have been cured of cancer and aids already. That IS on tv though if you watch a christian network. It has also happened at my church.
How could earth be 4 billion years old? If your saying that, then you must also be saying that radiocarbon dating is reliable. Which would also explain why the shroud of turin was only dated to be 200 years, when would actually prove longer if done by a stable method.
Let me give you an example on why it is unstable. They've done radiocarbon dating on volcanoes at the top, and it says that the top is the oldest. Does that sound right to you? NO
God has always been here, he didn't create himself, he was just always here. Remember, time was created by God, so we can not find out how long God has been around. Does that explain that for you?

 » brainwashed?

Um I was there when all of this happen. Not to mention many other people. A man who lost his limbs had them grow back. A man that was paralyzed was able to walk again within seconds. You'd tell me that I and everyone else only had dreams?

 » "part 2"

And how do you explain it happening both times since you were obviously there. How do you eplain a man parylyzed from BIRTH walking after being prayed for? When it was done in front of hundreds of people? How do you tell the doctors to thier face that her heart "slowed down" when they had abeen dead for hours? Is there some medicine in science that heals parylyzed, makes blind see, and brings freakn dead people to life? She was dead for hours. You were not there and have no way of calling it false. You can't tell me that all of the hundreds of people that knew what happened, and all of the doctors that ran multiple tests on her were lying or brainwashed. There is a God in heaven. How the heck would all of these things that you described get here in the first freakn place. And we don't worship the bible, we worship God.
Please form your little false theroies in a respectable fashion.
There is a God, and all of you will be sorry you ever doubted. Since you like studying so much, read up on what it says Hell is like.
And again, why hasn't anything else "evolved" since humans, huh?

Don't try to twist this because it wasn't covered up to look like magic, they limb was exposed, and grew straight out and formed another limb. Also to make up years of not growing, it actually grew longer than the other leg, and the other leg grew to fit the size of the restored one. So how will you dispute this after hundreds of people watched this? This kind of stuff is covered up everyday by media. I was just able to actually witness one of these events and there not some scam or anything. If it was, then the man who was parylyzed from birth wouldn't be walking today, now would he?

just wanted to explain something about the appearence of life:

The Earth has existed for now about 4 Billion years (im not sure irf im exactly right) but well back then it was a kind of big Radioactive rock mass.

something like 300-400 million years before our times, life appeared...

At first, "Life" was just a chain of acids put together, then this chain got longer and longer and created ( by chance) created a protein (remember that it took about 2 billion years, thats a lot) then protein got together and created, yet again by chance, a system, this system could reproduce himself, so thats what it did.

Then, after that, the system because in conflict with other systems that could also reproduce. The most powerful system( wich i will now call a cell) was reproducing while destroying "enemy cells" so now we have powerful cells who by chance got together to form another system, more powerful but more complex, and this goes on and on all the way to us!

this is how we appeared and it took 4,000,000,000 years (remember, if you won 1$ every 1,000 years, by now you woul be millionaire so that's not a small numer, dont understimate it!)

good explanation ace.
matter has always been there, truth. packed together in a ball that was probably very hard to see.
and where do you come up with this bull s**t? the Weekly World News? seriously.
this leg miracle is bologne, probably some dumbass scan to get you all saved.
open your eyes like i did. realize there is no life after death or reincarnation. enjoy life the way it is.

and why nothing has evolved? do you even know how f**king long it takes to have a species to evolve?
at least hundred of thousands of years.
there is no heaven nor hell. and you can bring dead people back alive again (if they havent been dead for too long). we have eye transplants for blind, hearing aids for deaf, artificial limbs for the handicapped.
science is real, "god" is not.
you only live once, truth.

and one last thing, truth. how old are you?
as you obviously arn't the sharpest tool in the shed...

   by Truth (Unregistered) - 2007-07-20
 » ok

My age has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

How am I not "the sharpest tool in the shed"? Was there ANY statement I said without doing thorough research? Do you believe I am some kid that knows absolutely nothing about life? Let me give you a little lesson atheist since you failed to answer what I just asked. How was matter created? Do you know? Do you have evidence of evolution? Oh yeah, if we evolved into humans, then why are there still primeapes on earth anyway. Shouldn't they have been wiped out completely since we "evolved"? Monkeys have no connection with humans. If they did, we'd be transferring body parts from them by now. And I fail to understand how you did not read the pages that were just typed. How did man that was blind, walk into a church, have a man lay his hands on him and pray, and see in a matter of seconds? Yes there are sugerys, but the man saw in a matter of seconds. There are no surgery tables in a church, how did a dead man come back to life? How did a man have his eye GROW BACK OUT OF THE SOCKET in front of witnesses? You think that was magic or something? You think that they stopped time and put a plastic ball in his eye socket? This stuff is real, and until you actually realise that, please do not EVER say that it is fake. There are countless lists of miracles I could go into detail on

How did the man that was parylyzed from birth, learn how to walk completely upright? Why is he still walking now? You think he just imagined the pain he was going through? You think he had some magic liquid injected into himself? Please explain this.

I want yo to actually think past everything, and tell me how matter got here? How was it just always here? If that was the case, then why haven't we seen life anywhere else? Again, what makes earth so special?

How was the leg growing back a scam? Like I said before, these kinds of things happen all of the time. If you have never even seen miracles of God, please do not disput them. These types of miracles have baffled doctors in my area. They have yet to come up with an eplaination as to what happened. Will you be able to tell me that you know more than doctor? Have you studied in the medical field, and recieved your degree?

Will you be able to tell that man that lost his WIFE that she never died? Will you go through all of that extra effort just to deny God? Why would you do this. Please explain to me this magnificant speech you recieved that convinced you there was no God?

Also how was the shroud of turin made? How was a mans body imprented onto a clothe sheat, when xrays weren't even invented back then?

 » Also

If you can believe that it is a history book. Then why the heck not believe everything else it says? It's been around for thousands of years, why can't you just believe? Jerusalem and Bethlahem, amoung others, are ALL real places. What makes everything else about it seem false? Is it the fact that it predicted a calf being born without spots, which is STILL alive today. What is so hard to believe this? Do you simply reject it out of fear? Do you reject it becauseit is too real?
Or is it because you ay have had a bad experience with a fake preacher? I've had the exact same problem, but that doesn't mean EVERYONE is fake. It's the same with peple. You may meet someone that you may not like, but does that mean that every person you meet will get on your nerves?

I swear, if you'd set aside pride and just read it, you'd notice a difference....and im not saying that to try and convince you. It has seriously changed me bro, ad I do and always will get offended when someone trys to attack our faith just because one person they met made s look bad. Why do you think we out so much emphasis on showing God in us? To make us look better than someone? NO. To prevent experiences like this, so people will not ever get the wrong impression. I'm a human being just like you bro.

   by Truth (Unregistered) - 2007-07-20
 » One last thing

I am NOT trying to push my belief on you. I just do not want you to get the wrong impression before you've actually tried (i mean really tried) Just don't make accusations before you've had a real experience.
Now I'll end on that

So u had witnesses did ya? Well i remember last year when i went to David Copperfield's show, he was suspended on a small platform 2 feet above the stage nothing was beneath or above him and then he just disapeared in front of hundreds of "witnesses". One second he was there and the next one he wasn't. Its not very hard to fool people and HUMANS SEE WHAT THEY WANT TO SEE!
I don't believe a bit of your so called miracles. After all i can say i saw a flying spaghetti monster outside, but it doesn't make it true! And in fact its your theories that are frail as there is much more information proving evolution than creationism. I know that the bible contains real historical information as do many fiction works (say a romantic novel set on a WWII background).
So far from your comments I've deducted u must not be older than 14 as your arguments don't carry much weight and sound like the bogus information that is drilled into young children's minds. What differentiates us is that i chose my beliefs after i did thorough research on both creationism and evolution and evaluated the facts before choosing what to believe while you were raised with creationism... I just have one question to you. How do you explain dinosaurs as they don't fir in the creationist time line.

P.S. We did not evolve from monkeys. We evolved from a common ancestor with them and then our paths branched. Look at it this way: evolution branches out like a tree allowing multiple species to form. Some paths lead to dead ends (ex: Neanderthals) while other continue on and branch out even further...

What does my age have anything to do with this topic? Which one of my statements were something that a 14 year old boy would write? Was it because I said I went to school?
Either way, it has NOTHING to do with this topic.
If anything, I've presented myself in a very respectable fashion.

It's obviously pointless trying to tell you the truth, so this will most likely be the last time I even look at this page. This was not "drilled" into my mind. I could give you the mans contact information today because I've known him since I was a child.
If you've done so much research, tell me how radiocarbon dating is stable? Tell me how volcnoes are oldest at the top? Tell me why they used that same method to try and figure out how old the earth was.
It was not some magic show. I can see how you may believe that. Let me paint a picture for you real quick.
Picture a man in a wheel chair being called up in the front, missing a leg. His assistant wheeled up to the front for the pastor to lay his hands on him. In front of the congregation the mans missing leg grew out in front of everyone. Is that a magic trick? Is that a way to fool human eyes? I knew the man, and I still know im. He is still walking, he has no signs of every loosing a limb or anything. Do you think I imagined him loosing his leg? Was that illusion done over all of the years I knew him?
It's obvious that you've never seen the power of God, and I doubt you will with that ignorance. These were not stories my dad told me to tuck me in. These were freinds that I knew that had problems with them get taken away. You'll stand and tell me to my face that I imagined all of the stuff that they went through? I've yet to hear you anwser that.
And that still sounds very nieve that yo would assume we came from monkeys just because we have the same hands. If we came from them or in a branch near them, then why don't we share ANYTHING else in common?

I fail to understand why people can be so ignorant just from one bad experience. You'd rather believe a theory that was used by a faulty method, just because you had a bad experience. If you ask me, that is rather childish.

truth, you were mislead and lied to. have you ever heard of an illusionist? wiki it then.
and did you even read my posts? matter has always been here.
and reading back on your earlier posts i agree about the global warming stuff, but because there is no proof.
but these "miracles" are kinda misleading you. believe what you want to believe, but i believe they are scams.
and evolution we have proof that it works.
we have no proof that these miracles were the work of god.

   by Truth (Unregistered) - 2007-07-21
» this is my last post

because it is obvious that you are not getting what I am saying. There were no magicians or illusionist at that service. It wasn't some magic show. It was faith in God. You want proof? Google for a calf in the east that was born with no spots. It is the ONLY one of its kind. After you look at that, read in the bible where it says the signs of the world ending. And one of those signs is a unspotted calf being born in the east. Well how the heck would they know that would be done thousands of years in the future? There is proof that God exists. You just keep denying the proof that I give you to make yourself think there's no God. I have given enough evidence for you, so that is why I will most likely stop going to this page.
Thankyou

 » sorry but

I just noticed why you would eel everything that you did. I'm sorry to tell you but you've been missled. You don't just pray for something everyday and think it's going to happen. You're pretty much talking to yourslef if you do that. It says without fatih it is impossible to please him. And faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. SO you don't pray and pray and plead with God, you believe it is going to happen. You have to use your faith. No one can give their faith for you. I guarantee if you had only used faith, you would've noticed whatver you problem was gettig solved. And you don't just give up because of a circumstance. So first things first, you should have read your word daily because remember faith comes by hearing and hearig by the word of God. Next, you only ask God for it ONCE. You don't keep going back to him with the same problem. The next time you pray yo say "Lord, thankyou for [whatever your problem was] is settled" it's that simple. But you have to actually believe. Don't do like I used to do and just say it without meaning it. Now when your problem is solved, don't just let your faith stop, keep growing it each chance you get.
Now I can really end on that :)
