MarsYes, there is water in Mars. Yes, it's flowed within the last few years. Yes, this could mean that extraterrestrial life may indeed exist in the red planet. But no, it probably wouldn't be safe for us humans to have a swig of it. Here's why.

Evidence from salt deposits on Mars' surface suggest that whatever liquid you may find would be some sort of acidic potion of minerals. Not exactly refreshing, is it? Apart from this, since the liquid was able to trickle down the surface without freezing from the planet's very thin atmosphere, this indicates that it could be way too salty for us. Ergo, it's not drinkable.

Then, there's also the consideration that we don't know what kind of other stuff lies beneath the surface from whence the water came from.

There's still a whole slew of reasons for us to be cautious with this water found in Mars. But the bottom line of that all is that we shouldn't let our excitement override our instincts for safety. Although this discovery sure may be a small light at the end of the tunnel, it's still a long way to go before we finally and fully reach that end.

So for now, let's just chill and put all those futuristic ambitions on hold, and tread on Mars with utmost care.

Why is this talked about like its FACT? Isn't water being on Mars being argued? How do they know its water (H2O) and not another substance? I've been seeing some many articles on this and at first it was talk about as a possibility, now its a fact...
