Yi So-Yeon - Image 1So kids, learn this lesson, and make sure you learn it well: breaking rules will not get you anywhere - at least not when you're preparing for something major. For example, preparing for your very first spaceflight.

Ko San, who was supposed to be the first astronaut from South Korea to launch into space, had his space plans abruptly disrupted when Russia's Federal Space Agency asked that he be replaced. The request for replacement was due to the fact that he violated rules at a Russian training center.

Ko had reportedly violated rules twice when he took reading material outside the premises without permission on September last year and when he lent a book - again, without authorization - last February. Reasoning that minor mistakes and disobedience will eventually result in serious consequences, the Russian Federal Space Agency requested for Ko's replacement.

Taking Ko's place as South Korea's first representative to space is mechanical engineer Yi So-yeon. While South Korea already launched several space satellites into space, this is the first time that they will send one of their citizens into outer space.

Historically, Yi So-yeon will not only be Korea's first astronaut, but also the first female astronaut from South Korea. She will rocket to space aboard a Russian Soyuz capsule in a mission to the orbiting International Space Station.
