Top five recreational drugs experiment - Image 1Recreational drugs are considered fun by others. To some, these drugs can be devastating. To know what they are fully capable of, scientists tried out their theories in the form of experiments.

Today, we present you with the top five recreational drugs experiment that were done by scientists. Results of their efforts have been officially documented in various journals.Believe or not, some experiments had very hilarious results.

Well, lets get down to business. Here's the list of the top five experiments done before:

5.Harvard Scientists Build a Device to Smoke Weed During a Brain Scan
So that addiction can be understood in a more detailed manner, scientists wanted to take a peek at the human brain when it's under the influence of weed. In order to proceed with this experiment using the MRI, Blaise Federick and his team from Harvard built a giant bong.

4.Stanford Chemists make THC from Scratch
Ever since 1965, scientists have been trying to develop the most active ingredient found in marijuana from scratch. They were able to create something with the same chemical composition but with a different shape. In 2006, chemists from Stanford University managed to create this particular molecule in its purest form.

3.Researchers Learn How Saliva Works
The Diviner's sage has a potent hallucinogen that could someday inspire a new breed of medication for depression, pain and addiction. From this, Catherine Willmore and colleagues at Ohio Northern University confirmed that the active chemical Salivorin A binds to proteins called kappa opioid receptors.

They trained rats to recognize the sensations caused by a well-understood drug. It's nearly impossible to know how they felt. They weren't even able to tell the difference between the chemical in sage and the one they had been trained to identify. What we're sure of is that, the chemicals activate the same target.

2.British Army Tests LSD on Soldiers
Instead of a short description on how this particular experiment went, we have a video below. The British army administered LSD on their soldiers. Well, the drugs really were effective. The results? Well, you just have the watch the video. We promise, you won't be disappointed.

1. Researchers Combine Chemicals from Sea Urchin Eggs and Weed to Make Powerful Painkillers
Lastly, scientists at organix, a research and development firm, manufactured hybrid molecules that resemble euphoria-inducing compounds such as THC and anandamide.

They found out that anandamide works faster but is disposed by the body instantly. A combination of the two drugs could have longer effects while maintaining the same or even greater effect. The results they got verified the fact that the new drugs they were able to make have the same effects as THC and anandamide.

Given the five, they're pretty interesting topics for research. Perhaps you could try them out at your next science fair (or not ~ ed). If you guys want to read more on the top five experiments, feel free to visit the link below. Don't forget to watch the video below.
