Diamonds May Have Jumpstarted Life on Earth - Image 1Sugar, spice, and everything nice. Snips, snails, and puppy dog tails. Wait, something's missing... Chemical X? Nah, according to scientists, it's diamonds. Looks like they aren't just a girl's best friend after all.

According to a new theory presented by German Scientists, the secret ingredient of the primordial soup where life on Earth bubbled up from was diamonds.

Diamonds, which are crystallized forms of carbon, are found to form crystalline layers of water on its surface when treated with hydrogen, and it was also found to have electrical conductivity.

These qualities are what made scientists believe that when primitive molecules first landed billions of years ago on the surface of these hydrogenated diamonds, it was enough to spark the necessary reaction to make life. (Who needs sex? Get a diamond.)
