New study: treatment that improves Alzheimer's within minutes - Image 1In a recent study published in the journal Neuoroinflammation, a group of researchers were able to document significant improvements to patients afflicted by Alzheimer's disease.

The results became evident in just a matter of minutes after the administration of a therapeutic medicine called etanercept. The said treatment is introduced to the spine and is capable of reducing high levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF).

Authors of the study led by University of California assistant clinical professor Edward Tobinick M.D. believed that high levels of TNF interfere with the regulation of the transmission of neural impulses in the brain.

Ture enough, excess of TNF has been documented in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients suffering from Alzheimer's. Regarding the study done, Sue Griffin, Ph. D. Director of Research at the Donald W. Reynolds Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medial Sciences, commented:

This gives all of us in Alzheimer’s research a tremendous new clue about new avenues of research, which is so exciting and so needed in the field of Alzheimer’s.

Even though this report predominantly discusses a single patient, it is of significant scientific interest because of the potential insight it may give into the processes involved in the brain dysfunction of Alzheimer’s.
