This is what you will see if you get to stare out the cockpit of the Lynx - Image 1If you had the money and the choice to go anywhere you wanted, where would you go? More importantly, would you restrict yourself only to places on the planet? With the new Lynx spacecraft being set for flight tests in 2010, you may wish to consider a tour of space, instead.

More "spatial" news awaits you in the full article, right after the jump.

Northern Lights phenomenon a.k.a. aurora - Image 1It looks like people will finally be able to appreciate the beautiful Northern Lights, normally seen at night, even during the daytime thanks to the help of NASA's Polar satellite. Under the special ultraviolet filter provided by the satellite, scientists can take a look at the unusual substorm activity noted in Earth's magnetosphere. More details of this study can be found in the our full article.

Modified US missile strikes, reduces failed satellite to 'football-sized' debris - Image 1Let's get our daily dose of scientific news before the day ends, shall we? Yesterday, the US Navy fired a single missile against a failing spy satellite, and contrary to many naysayers' claims, the plan was claimed to be very effective. Officials made it clear that the satellite generously exploded into bits - football-sized bits, they say - over the Pacific Ocean. More at the full story.

Disabled US satellite to be shot down by tactical missile - Image 1Remember the news about the satellite that the US lost contact with back in late January? Well, someone believes that it might be harmful to denizens of planet Earth once it re-enters after all. The Pentagon's top brass that think shooting it down is the best way to stop NROL-21, the recon satellite, from burning up in the atmosphere and releasing its poisonous rocket fuel.

*UPDATE*: They're gonna shoot it. And they've probably launched now!
