Glow in the dark kittens - Image 1

Ever wanted adorable glow-in-the-dark kittens? The cloning experts at South Korea's Gyeongsang National University apparently thought the idea of glowing cats was cool, so they "cloned cats by manipulating a fluorescent protein gene," reports the Agence France-Presse.

Supposedly for treating genetic diseases and curing cloned animals that suffer from human diseases, the project also came up with three cats that glow in the dark when exposed to ultraviolet beams. "It marked the first time in the world that cats with RFP (altered fluorescence protein) genes have been cloned," said the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Aside from the ability to produce glowing pets, this technology can also help in stem cell treatments according to cloning experts team leader Kong Il-keun. It can also be used to protect endangered animals like tigers, leopards and wildcats, he said.
