Does your pooch like the canned Eukanuba and Iams wet foods? We bet they just drool puddles over that can of "cuts and gravy." Well throw that can away if you love your pet because you just might give the poor thing kidney failure.

Some 10 pets are down and dozens more are ailing because of a yet unexplained mistake in the preparation of canned wet foods manufactured by Menu Foods. Company CEO Paul Henderson stated that they are not completely sure what happened but defended the brand name by saying "to date, the tests have not indicated any problems with the product."

Still, the company is conducting an investigation in cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration to find the reason behind the mysterious and abrupt pet deaths. Spokeswoman Sarah Tuite indicated that the company is starting with wheat glutes, a standard pet food ingredient added to incorporate protein in the mix. Menu Foods has recently changed suppliers and decided that it may yield the fastest results.

Regardless of test outcomes and government verdict, a massive pullout of the wet pet food has already begun. 60 million containers in shops across the US, Canada and Mexico have been recalled, specifically the 3 oz., 5.5 oz., 6 oz. and 13.2 oz. canned and 3 oz. and 5.3 oz. foil pouch cat and dog food variants. The whole ordeal will run at about US$ 26 million to US$ 34 million, according to Henderson.
