Isolating genes in our DNA gives scientists a foothold on how to manipulate them. Now what if scientists could isolate the obesity gene? They'd be able to make a drug that obliterates the need for garters in jeans. While this wonder drug may still be a long way off, scientists are making progress: scientists in Seattle have identified three separate genes that appear to promote weight gain. While a lot of people would be able to benefit from advances in this area, the scientists involved in the study note that actually making a breakthrough in the research is still a long way away, and that diet and exercise are still the way to go. |
