Scientific explanation about that We all had our shares of what's commonly called as "having second thoughts" whenever we are about to do something we are not sure of. Scientists now say that this "voice inside our head" isn't simply paranoia or fear of uncertainty as these very thoughts are generated by a particular part in the brain.

"Many people recognize the 'little voice inside the head' that stops you from doing something, like pressing the 'send' button on an angry email. Our study identifies the brain processes involved in that last-minute rethink about what we are doing", explained proponent of the study England's University College London Dr. Patrick Haggard.

According to Haggard and his partner Dr. Marcel Brass from Germany's Max Planck Institute, this particular part of the brain is located above our eyes and is known as dorsal fronto-median cortex or dFMC. The doctors added that this is somehow the opposite of the concept of "free will" and that's why they are referring to it now as "free won't".

University of Pennsylvania researcher Martha Farah, who isn't part of the study, is very excited with the findings as she commented, "It is very important to identify the circuits that enable 'free won't' because of the many psychiatric disorders for which self-control problems figure prominently".

Farah added that the study could further our understanding of attention deficit disorders, substance dependence, as well as various personality disorders.

I know some that are too afraid too do anything due to "free won't". Then again, I know those who always take risks, expressing their free will whenever they choose. There has to be a balence, wouldn't you think?
