Male/Female signs - Image 1Much like our ancestors, research say that males today still go for attractive mates while females long for status and financial security. A study conducted in Munich, Germany revealed that we haven't really changed much in the way we look for relationships.

Some 25 men and 21 women were invited to a speed-dating session where participants had mini-dates. Results strongly show that guys had their noses locked on to the more attractive girls, picking one of two from the opposite sex.

Ladies, on the other hand, found interest in only a third of the guys. Gents who had healthy pockets were main targets, but the ladies "self-censored" themselves by picking only those that they had hopes of attracting through looks.

Interestingly enough, these people stated before the dating session that they wanted partners who mirror their personalities. Investigators noticed other dynamics at work during the hunt, throwing such ideas out the window.

According to Peter Todd, cognitive scientist from Indiana University who spearheaded the study, our ancestors pretty much made the same decisions. He explained:

Ancestral individuals who made their mate choices in this way - women trading off their attractiveness for higher quality men and men looking for any attractive women who will accept them - would have had an evolutionary advantage in greater numbers of successful offspring.
