The Hungarian Government has pledged its full support in the preservation of eight million year old cypress trees found in their un-fossilized states in a lignite mine outside of Budapest.

Environmental minister Gabor Foder said that the national government is ready to donate millions of dollars in preservation efforts in order to keep the ancient trees as they are because these will provide scientists valuable information on how plant life was during those times.

Miners discovered the cypress trees and measured them to be 131 feet tall at the smallest. The Bukkabrany mine is the site where the precious trees have been dug up. It's located in a town called Miskole northeast of Hungary's capital.

The public will soon be able to see the prehistoric trees for themselves in the Bukk National Park in the same town where they were found. The trees are believed to once have been a part of a wetland forest near the area where they were buried.
