Just when the world had seemingly pushed the memory of the dreaded bird flu virus into oblivion, it has once again resurfaced to possibly wreak havoc on both human and avian health. Last Sunday, government officials in the UK had recently announced a report of a  bird flu outbreak at the Red Grave Farm in Suffolk, sentencing a total of 5000 diseased turkeys, geese, and ducks to their doom.

As if the report of another bird flu case wasn't bad enough, preliminary testing results of the Department of Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) in the UK revealed that, though the blighted birds contracted the H5 bird flu virus strain, it is yet to be verified whether these birds actually carried the more highly pathogenic H5N1 strain that has caused numerous deaths in countries such as Spain, Hungary, and Vietnam.

For those of you already planning to swear off poultry for the rest of your life, fret not, for the UK government has already proceeded to take immediate action to contain the outbreak.

Aside from making sure that none of the diseased birds had escaped the farm and had all been successfully slaughtered and dealt away with, all of the workers at the Red Grave Farm had been promptly administered anti viral drugs as a precaution from even the slightest possibility of contracting the virus.

Other reports of bird flu cases have not been forwarded in the UK since, an assurance that the actions taken to circumvent another possible bird flu epidemic was indeed successful.
