Atelopus frog - Image 1

That is one funky frog right there. And it comes from a brand new specie. Actually, this frog, along with 24 other new species of wildlife, have been discovered since last year in the Nassau Mountains, Suriname. However, it was only this week that Conservation International released their new finds.

According to the scientists, this frog wearing fluorescent purple markings is an Atelopus frog. The cool guy was discovered by Surinamese scientists Paul Ouboter and Jan Mol. He posed for this picture on March 2006. I wonder if he glows in the dark...

» How did no-one ever notice it before?

It doesn't exactly blend in with those rocks. Or anything else in nature.
