Prosthetics for humans are common. Prosthetics for animals aren't as common, but they're not unheard of - but prosthetics for sea creatures are a different matter. At least, this is the first time we've heard of a prosthetic tail. Meet Winter, the world's first bionic dolphin. Details in the full article. |

Imagine, if you will, a man who accidentally cut off the tip of his finger, nail, skin, bone, and all. After sprinkling some special white powder on it, all the parts grew back after a month. Magic? No. It's the cutting edge (pun intended) in stem cell research. The holy grail of medicine in powder form. Full story and a mini-documentary in the full article. |

Read the story after following the "read more" link below. |

Size does matter, even in the world of small things. Scientists at Purdue University have been able to take a three-dimensional image of a virus at a resolution of 4.5 angstroms. An angstrom is 0.1 nanometer long, or 1/10 billionth of a meter. So you can imagine that's quite an achievement. Check out the full article to see the magnified virus. |

As consoles get more powerful, they break the boundaries of what they were originally designed for. While they were only limited to games before, they are now lending their power for use in the sciences, from medicine to computing the physics of two black holes colliding. Read more on the role of consoles in the fields of science by going to the full article. |

When we're suffering from serious illnesses, the last thing we need is to go to the doctor's office only to stew in the waiting room for hours. Is it possible for doctors to monitor patients while the latter are in their own homes? Well, unless you're ready to pay a premium for house calls, it's quite possible with the latest technology being developed. Check out the evolved band-aid and how it monitors a patient's vital signs in the full article. |
