Scientists get death threats over Large Hadron Collider - Image 1Now that the first proton particles have been injected into the Large Hadron Collider, the facility is now getting ready to start up the humongous atom smasher next Wednesday. Pretty exciting stuff.

Excitement has been dampened for the scientists at the facility however, as they've been getting death threats to stop the operation.

More than that, Head of public relations, James Gillies, gets phone calls that range from tearful to angry. He gets stuff like: "I am seriously worried. Please tell me that my children are safe," or "You are evil and dangerous and you are going to destroy the world."

To which Gillies replies:

I find myself getting slightly angry, not because people are getting in touch but the fact they have been driven to do that by what is nonsense. What we are doing is enriching humanity, not putting it at risk.

One professor in Manchester University, commenting on how Nobel Prize winning physicist Frank Wilczek has received death threats, remarks: "Anyone who thinks the LHC will destroy the world is a t---." Right on. And the thought of a professor saying "destroy the world" and "t---" in the same sentence just puts a grin on my face.

Seriously though, the world's most brilliant minds wouldn't give the project the thumbs up if they thought it would make the world go kablooie. They live here too, after all. We don't live in a world of mad scientists. And if we do, then there's also a James Bond out there somewhere that will save us anyhoo. Chill out about it, folks.

Either way it was going to happen eventually haha. but in all seriousness, just get a crow bar and deal with black holes half-life style.

I am that James Bond everyone seeks except the name's Griffin, Stewie Griffin. Anywho, over the past few months I have assembled my army from Nicaragua to thwart their plans of scientific experimentation for my own objective of world domination.

Victory shall yet be mine!

It's a bit sad that my article's the last to be posted on the Science blog for a while. I seriously miss writing for it.

Hey RommelTJ, thanks for the support. Always great to hear from fellow Science lovers.

Don't know when the blog will return - hopefully soon, if the powers-that-be realize that enough readers do want the blog back.

 » Did you know

did you know that that as the matter in this particle collider gets faster, they can get up to 1000 times as heavy because of Einstein's theory of relativity? Well this is the reason why the collisions will be so powerful in the LHC. The protons should get near the speed of light ( I think) and if so they are gonna weigh 1000 times more than they should. They are still pretty light, but at these speeds they blow up when they hit each other and shell out sub elementary particles.

As you can see I'm no professional. I'm just saying this LHC collider is gonna do some cool things.

Get Ready.

Who knows, Earth might get consumed by some mini black holes...(just kidding!...or am I..)
