HIVThere was a song once that said, "salvation is in the eye of the storm". What it basically means is that you might find the answers from within the problem itself. It looks like it might just apply here.

HIV has long baffled scientists and researchers. 130 women in Kenya may provide the necessary answers to these dead-ends. The findings was the result of a follow-up study of 850 women who have contracted the virus. The women in question are sex workers who contracted HIV three years ago and suddenly tested negative to the virus. These sex workers are still quite active until the day of the study; most had up to 30 clients a day.

Thanks to a gene that protects them, they have grown immune to the virus. The gene might be a human leukocyte that recognizes HIV and other similar viruses. This means that as soon as the gene is isolated, identified, manufactured, and distributed; the world may finally breathe its first sigh of relief since the virus began.

I seem to remember about 10 years ago hearing of prostitues in central or south America who seemed imune to infection. These sorts of advances in medical technology and knowledge seem to take so long to progress that I wouldn't eb surprised if this still takes another 10, 20, 30 years to actually produce something beneficial for the masses.

 » Well...

It usually takes up to six months to make vaccines, so a cure or something similar might come in 1 to 2 years, so who knows?
