Jupiter and the others - Image 1Waking up at dawn on February 1 will allow you to see something amazing in the sky. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) reports that the two brightest planets in the Solar System, Venus and Jupiter, are going to be less than 1º apart and will appear as beautiful twin headlights.

NASA warns that the spectacle is comparable to airplanes in low flight, so you better secure an area with a view of the southeastern horizon to avoid being obstructed by trees and buildings. When you see the two planets illuminate the sky, according to NASA, you may not be able to take your eyes off them.

Dr. Stuart Hiroyasu, O.D., of Bishop, California was quoted saying, "Your eye is like a digital camera." He explained that near the retina which captures images, there's a patch of tissue 1.5 millimeters wide called the fovea that displays images in high-definition when you see through it.

The fovea's field of view is just around 5º, so Venus and Jupiter's get together will fit. Amazed, your brain will tell you you're looking at something you shouldn't miss. However, if you move your eyes away to the right, you'll be in for yet another pleasant surprise. NASA reports that at the same time the two planets converge, the moon and red giant star Antares are going to be 5º apart - enough to be recognized by the fovea.

The first day of February is not the only one you should mark on your calendar, because the skies on the 3rd and 4th of the same month are going to be impressive as well. For more details, head over to NASA's website by clicking on the "via" link below.
