High tech space undies by Takai Doi fashion - Image 1

If you knew you would be stuck in outer space for a while, what kind of underwear would you bring along? Throw that question at astronaut Takao Doi and he'd probably tell you all about the stinkless underwear he's currently testing out.

Since he'd been assigned to the International Space Station (ISS), Doi has been subjecting the high-tech undies - dubbed "J-WEAR" - to the acid test. A special nanotech fabric is what makes the underwear so unique. According to the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the underclothes can do the following:
  • repel static
  • wick away water
  • kill bacteria
  • neutralize odors
  • prevent permanent odor infusion
Furthermore, the undergarments are seamless, and they've been crafted with fire-retardant, easy hook-and-loop fasteners for the win. No word has been released as to how the undies would be evaluated, but Doi is slated to return to Earth on March 26. Perhaps we'll know the results of his "stinking" experiment then.
