Dinospine - Image 1The search for the biggest prehistoric reptile to ever walk the earth continues to this day, and one of the more recent searches in Argentina has netted a find that could potentially tower over the competition. We're talking about the Futalognkosaurus dukei, a plant-eating dinosaur believed to have roamed the earth 80 million years ago, with a grand height of 105 feet, or 32 meters.

Argentinian and Brazilian paleontologists agree that with such a height, Futalognkosaurus dukei could be one of the tallest reptilian giants ever found - and that's with the dinosaur itself being the first of its kind. This is supported by the fact that the remains found represent a neck structure that's unique from the other long-necked herbivores.

Of course, while the creature may have certainly been colossal during its prime, it certainly didn't help much with survival, as analysis of the skeleton showed signs of being eaten by predators as a cause of death. Ouch.

Then again, scientists also point to its size as a contributing factor to Patagonia's - the dig site where Futalognkosaurus was found - abundance of fossils, as they believe that its remains had blocked off a river, serving as a barrier that collected more fossils of other animals, plants, and fishes during that era. Alexander Kellner, a researcher with the National Museum in Rio de Janeiro, puts it best:

The accumulation of fish and leaf fossils, as well as other dinosaurs around the find, is just something fantastic. Leaves and dinosaurs together is a great rarity. It's like a whole lost world for us.

And we may be seeing Futalognkosaurus dukei's bones up in display soon, as a large majority of its body has already been unearthed. Of course, that leaves about a bajillion more pieces to root out.
