sick...Frogs are dropping dead like flies in Japan. Actually, there's only been five reports of frogs dying of fungal infection, but this didn't stop animal and research groups in Japan from jointly declaring a "state of emergency".

The said fungal infection, chytrid fungus, is believed to be linked to the sharp reduction in amphibian numbers in other parts of the world.

The infected frogs were reported to have come from South America, but raised in Japan. There are about a dozen other frogs that had died earlier, and it is possible that it was due to the same fungus. According to Yumi Une, assistant professor of Azabu University in Kanagawa, "Although these were the first confirmed cases, there is no proof that there had been no infection before."

Although the said fungus is lethal to amphibians, it is not known to be harmful to other species, including humans.

So to those searching for their Mr. or Miss Right, just be careful as to which frogs you kiss, ayt?
