Giant Flying Reptiles Preferred To Walk - Image 1Pterosaurs, the flying reptiles of Ancient Earth, have always been imagined as gull-like creatures, swooping down from their flight to pluck up their food from the ground.

A new study from the University of Portsmouth claims that this image may be false. The researchers put forth a new theory, saying that pterosaurs actually hunted for their meals on land, like storks.

They came up with this theory by studying azhdarchids, a kind of pterosaur. A study of their anatomy, fossils, and footprints all suggest that they were land-stalkers. They probably won't be chasing any vans from Jurassic Park on foot anytime soon though.

See that picture up there? Yeah, that's a group of Quetzalcoatlus, a giant pterosaur (It was named after the Aztec god, whose name was also given to the Lightning-elemental summon in Final Fantasy 8. Why yes, I am a geek, thank you for asking). In the picture, they're stalking the prairie, plucking up baby dinosaurs off of the ground for a quick snack. Crunchy.
