Tagish Lake MeteoriteThe acquisition of a meteorite containing still-frozen and uncontaminated samples of what's known as 'pre-solar grains' - materials from other stars present near our own solar system when it formed - has been announced by Canada's University of Alberta. All of 650 grams in weight, the meteorite landed on the surface of Tagish Lake in Northern British Columbia in Canada on January 18, 2000.

This meteorite is immeasurably valuable, as it contains uncontaminated and samples of the building blocks of the molecules necessary for life as we know it. Moreover these samples are ancient; they date from the time our solar system formed, approximately 4.57 billion years ago.

This remnant from the most ancient days of our solar system has the potential to revolutionize how we understand the universe. More updates as we get them.
