Just because Gino D.'s Dr. Evil image cracks me up so much, here he is again for you. But on to the news. Now that the first proton particles have been injected into the Large Hadron Collider, the facility is now getting ready to start up the humongous atom smasher next Wednesday. Exciting. Excitement has been dampened for the scientists at the facility however, as they've been getting death threats to stop the operation. Details in the full article. |

It's not fair that the folks at Switzerland get all the fun. Now, you can build your very own Large Hadron Collider at your backyard (given that your backyard's big enough, of course). Be the Dr. Evil you've always wanted to be and follow the full how-to guide that CERN's published online to create your very own doomsday device! It's simple enough, given that you can understand it all. But once that's done, it's all a matter of piecing it together, right? Aww, c'mon, it's not as tough as it sounds. Read more for instructions! |

Everything's mini now, it goes to follow that they run on minibatteries as well. But there's no such thing as minibatteries... right? Wrong. MIT researchers have just created this breakthrough technology, and they used viruses for it. |

At the Beijing Olympic Games, 25 world records have fallen - seven of them alone were broken by Michael Phelps of the US. While records being broken are not foreign during the Olympics, the sheer amount of them this year is astounding. Does water in Chinese swimming pools have steroids or something? Nah - according to New Scientists, the answer lies in the architecture of the Beijing pool. More after the link. |

Yes, it's another development on the quest for that Harry Potter fashion must-have: the invisibility cloak. Scientists at the University of California in Berkeley has had some major progress, having found a method that could create the effect of light-bending, which then allows light to "go around" the object, thereby making it seem invisible. Interested? For sure you are. You know the drill. More geekgasms after the jump. |

I'm such a nut for environmentally friendly stuff. I found this one while browsing through some random stuff on the net. It's a prototype for a plastic bike made from recycled materials, and is even recyclable itself! More in the full article. |
