Electronic Contact Lenses - Image 1Ever wished you had fancy-schmancy HUD integrated into your eyesight? Thanks to technology, it looks like you can have useful data floating in your vision, similar to the gadgets that spies you frequently see in the movies (or Saturday morning cartoons) use.

Engineers managed to come up with electronic circuit-laden contact lenses, which have the potential to project valuable information such as the measure of speed into pilots' eyes, or surf the Internet using a virtual display beamed directly into the lens wearer's eyes.

The prototype of the electronic lenses, which also contained red light diodes, are made out of material proven to be safe for use in the human eye. To make sure the lenses were safe, the engineers tested them on a rabbit, which didn't experience any discomfort upon wearing the contacts for about 20 minutes.

"People may find all sorts of applications for it that we have not thought about," said Babak Parvis, an assistant professor of electrical engineering from the University of Washington, when asked about what functions the electronic lenses may serve.

training tools for various things would be cool
DIY crap, kind of giving you an overlay of what to do.

apply these to advancements in automobiles... how about driving remote control. no more gps on your dash...your route highlighted in your eyesight

infared toggling, nightvision toggling.

video game and see all your "on screen queues", ammo, etc in your in eye hud to have less clutter on actual screen

Absolutely amazing!!! I am astonished by the human mind and the things that we come up with and are capable of every day ...however I am disappointed because I read about this stuff everywhere with all the new technology and endless possibilities but no result ? will the common man ever see this ... some of this tech we've had for year , mysterious engines that run off less gas ...new molecule and such and I read about it all the time here on QJ but when will I see t for myself? will I ever see it in my life time? lol this probably helped them build the pyramids lol jk

I think if I got one, I wouldn't be able to resist the urge to walk around like someone from Dragonball Z going "HIS POWER IS INCREDIBLE!" While little numbers flashed by my eye.

cool, but not something i want to put on my eye just yet. they will need to do more test on safty to convince me, especially more than one rabbit for 20 minutes. that doesn't show much. sure it may not show discomfort, but how about any side effects? well I hope everything goes well and works out so that we can get a new helpful gadget to block or distract our eyesight from what is really in front of us.
