Green technology cuts diesel usage by 80% - Image 1 Green technology cuts diesel usage by 80% - Image 2

Europe had the right idea when they announced their plans to build solar energy fields in the African desert. After all, where's a better place to get solar energy than a desert? The idea seems to be catching on, too.

Swedish start up company Flexenclosure is introducing eco-friendly technology solutions to mobile phone operators who have base stations in Africa. The technology is said to cut diesel consumption of these base stations by 80%.

Flexenclosure's plan is to provide an eco-friendly base station to mobile phone networks. These base stations, called E-sites, will run on energy gathered from solar panels and wind turbines, with a diesel generator used only as a complementary energy source.

Not only is the E-site eco-friendly, but it's cheaper in the long run as well. The problem is looking for optimal spots to set up the stations. Hopefully the technology will catch on with other industries as well.
