Doomed Chernobyl reactor to be buried in giant steel coffin - Image 1The Chernobyl disaster is known as the worst nuclear power plant accident in history, one that ended in a fallout and thousands of people who will die from cancer due to radiation exposure.

A shelter  was built around the reactor to contain the radiation. However, it was built hastily and was completed in only six months, so It eventually weakened over time and began to leak out radiation once again.

Now, a US$ 515 million project will soon make sure that the area will be safe once again. Work will soon be made to seal the plant in a steel coffin. A very huge coffin that weighs in at 20,000 tons, and measures 345 feet tall, 840 feet wide and 490 feet long.

A fitting end perhaps? At the least, environmentalists will be happy in knowing that the danger will soon be past.
