NASA to Launch Beatles Tune Into Space - Image 1

Tomorrow, NASA will be broadcasting the classic Beatles song "Across the Universe" into space, towards Polaris, the North Star. Traveling a distance of 2.5 quadrillion miles, the song is expected to arrive there after 431 years.

The act is a three-fold celebration: to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the song, the 45th anniversary of NASA's Deep Space Network, and the 50th Anniversary of NASA itself. On hearing of the project, Paul McCartney said: "Send my love to the aliens. All the best, Paul."

The idea of broadcasting the song into space came from Martin Lewis, a Los Angeles-based Beatles historian. NASA's certainly on a roll with sending cool things out into space; last October they launched Luke's lightsaber to the International Space Station.

 » that is so WIN!

Words are flying out
like endless rain into a paper cup
they slither while they pass
they slip away
across the universe...

Now whatever happened to The Carpenters' Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft?! Or that So Long and Thanks for All the Fish song! LOL

but I guess Across the Universe is just as fine. ^_^
