Atlantis CrewThe launch of the space shuttle Atlantis was delayed today as NASA officials tried to determine if any damages were incurred after lightning stuck the launch site. Atlantis' launch will be moved to tomorrow should the weather prove adequate for launch conditions, and it is hoped that their mission can further proceed without any setbacks.

Training for more than four years as a result of the failed Columbia launch, NASA definitely wants to make sure there aren't any problems this time, as an entire space station and its future is on the line. The Atlantis crew will be flying up to the International Space Station and spending 11 days there, fitting a new instrument for future research use.

Known as solar arrays, these arrays allow for the space station and its future users to track the sun, generating additional electric power for the entire station's systems. The entire setup weighs over 17 tons and will should take three spacewalks during the 11-day stay to fully install and integrate with the existing systems.

Let's hope they succeed and increase our chances at further space exploration.
