Ó

We've all seen artificial gravity at work, on TV shows like Star Trek or Battlestar Galactica, it's amazing to think that some day in the future, we may well find such science fiction a reality. Apparently the folk at the European Space Agency believe they've been able to artificially generate a gravitational field. Researchers have had  small acceleration sensors placed at different locations close to a spinning superconductor, the superconductor was then accelerated so that the effect could become noticeable. As with all things of this nature, scientists start small in the hopes of one day seeing the outcomes of such experiments reproduced for humans.

Based on Faradays electromagnetic induction experiment, the effect was very small, but still the effect appeared to be there. The scientists involved are hoping to confirm the experiment within the scientific community. This usually means going through various judging stages and the experiment being replicated to prove validity (as with all scientific methods). Suffice to say, we won't have artificial gravity anytime soon, but it's interesting to keep up with what's happening in this area of scientific discovery.

 » O RLY?

I reminded of the work of Eugene Podkletnov. John R.R. Searl comes to mind, but his work is shrouded in obscurity.
